When Joel and I started revisiting a conversation we had about redoing our kitchen when we first moved into our current home 4.5 years ago, I did what any normal creative would do...
Start a design board!
It was like being at ACU all over again in my interior design classes. Except, I could do it all digital this time instead of making a physical design board that had to be drug across campus! Plus, internet searches are so much faster than having to find sources in old design magazines like we did in class. I sure do hope they get to do it digitally now (I digress)! Anyways, being a visual person, this board helped SO MUCH with the direction we took things, and allowed us to make big decisions even faster. I really enjoy seeing how the fixtures and finishes look together. This method definitely helps if you're indecisive like myself!
Once seeing our final design board, looking at it made me realize what we had just created (in my mind at least). It looks like the finishes that would be in our dream coffee shop if we ever had one; Modern, industrial, and minimalist in a palette of clear neutrals. We live in a 40 year old character home, and we want something a bit more unique for our update, rather than what has come to be expected in a traditional Texas suburban home. (If you live here, you know what I'm talking about!)
What we're trying to do is put some style into this old house. Put our mark on it. I'm pretty sure this will do the trick.
After having the design board in place, we went about seeing if it would actually pan out with our desired budget for the whole project. We waited until we got the final bid from our contractor, plugged in those numbers, and decided the whole thing could actually become a reality for us at this point in our lives. We quickly jumped on board after that realization! Within a 24 hour time period, we hired our contractor, ordered the needed items for installation, and continue to get excited/anxious by the minute for the final renovation!
There you have it. This is an idea of what we're hoping to achieve with our kitchen update this month. I'll break down the source list as I go through each part of the process as well. Stay tuned!
